Meet the Makers- Kate

Every Chapman bag is made at our factory in Carlisle. It takes skill, precision, concentration and teamwork. The people who work in the factory are at the core of our brand, so here is a profile of Kate our Design and Development Manager:

Background

‘I graduated from Leeds College of Art in Fashion Design. A year after graduating I emailed the company to see if they had any vacancies. I heard about Chapman Bags from my uncles who fished and then I saw they were advertised or featured in Dazed and Confused so I thought I’d enquire.’

How long have you been at Chapman?

‘3 years in October’

What would you like about working here?

‘I get to see development from start to finish and it’s nice to see and be part of British manufacturing. It’s great to see it thriving here at Chapman! It’s also nice to see orders and bags develop from samples I’ve designed.’

What are your hobbies?

‘I love visiting new places and cities and travelling in general. I think it’s because you can see different cultures and experience new things. I also like to visit galleries and design even more when I’m at home!’

What is an interesting fact about you?

‘well I have a twin sister! But she lives in Sheffield. I once made handle bar covers for Chapman Bags for a scooter! Which was definitely odd.’

If you were a bag what type of bag would you be and why?

‘I would definitely be a tote bag because they are functional and are good for any occasions. You can fit more in them than you think- they very underestimated.’
