WILL I GET MY PRESENT IN TIME FOR CHRISTMAS?
During the run up to Christmas we reserve additional production capacity for our clients to ensure that they receive their presents in time for Christmas, even if it’s a Bespoke or Made to Order product that is temporarily out of stock. There are nevertheless dates by which we cannot guarantee delivery before Christmas, which are listed below. We encourage clients to order as early as possible in case of wintry conditions in the Borders.
Our factory closes between 21st December and 2nd January, during which time you can still order online, although your product may not be shipped until the factory re-opens on 2nd January. Our London showroom, where you can also purchase Chapman products, is open 10-5 Monday to Friday until 21st December. We may also be able to accommodate weekend appointments if you contact us on 0207 323 6665 or at firstname.lastname@example.org

HOW DO CHAPMAN GIFT VOUCHERS WORK?
We now offer a range of Chapman Gift Vouchers at values between £50 and £1000. Currently these are only available to UK customers from our website but if you are an overseas customer wishing to purchase one please contact us at email@example.com and we will arrange this for you. You can purchase these online just like a normal product in our Gifts section (note: please select the Free Shipping option during checkout). You can choose either to receive the online version or you can have a physical voucher posted to you as well. You will receive an order confirmation as usual by email and a voucher will be emailed to you as a PDF file. The vouchers can be used by entering the unique code at checkout against any purchase for the value of the amount. They can only be used once by a single customer. They have no expiry date.
WHAT IS MY CHAPMAN BAG MADE OF?
We believe in using natural materials to make our bags wherever possible. The principal materials used to make our bags are cotton and leather. The bonded cotton canvas fabric which is used in most of our bags is a strong, waterpoof material which is created by bonding two layers of cotton drill with a central core of natural rubber. We spare no expense in the creation of this fabric which, as a result, has a luxurious and soft feel unlike synthetic materials. We also use a British dyed and proofed 24oz canvas, which is not bonded, and has been treated to resist water. Our tweed and woollen bags are made from British woven wool, which is then also bonded to form a hardwearing and waterproof material.
The leather components on most of our canvas bags are made from English leather, created specially for us in our three standard colours and designed to be non marking. Our leather bags are made from full grain vegetable tanned leather. This is a completely natural finish which has not been plated or corrected. We use brass and occasionally nickel plated brass for our hardware, as well as wood and aluminium alloy for braces and supports when required. We use British woven military grade 100% cotton parachute webbing. Our Cargo range of car luggage is made from a high quality British sourced woven man made fibre with a waterproof backing and finish. You can view a fuller description and pictures of our materials and manufacturing process here.
WHAT IS CANVAS?
Originally canvas was made from hemp or flax and used for sailcloth and other applications. Similar materials are still used to make bags today. In this form, canvas comprises a single layer of fairly coarse fabric, usually with a broad weave, and with limited waterproofing. The material we use is made from cotton and we therefore describe our bags as being made from cotton canvas. As explained above, we take two layers of fine cotton drill and bond them with a natural rubber core. This produces a luxurious and soft material which is also strong and waterproof, quite unlike the original sailcloth canvas. The generic term Canvas Bag is now applied to bags made of various different materials including sailcloth type canvas, synthetic lookalikes, multi-layered cotton canvas like ours and blends of natural and synthetic materials (such as polyurethane) used by other manufacturers of similar bags.
IS MY CHAPMAN BAG WATERPROOF?
As explained above, our cotton canvas drill fabric comprises two layers of cotton bonded with a natural rubber core. Although it is therefore waterproof, we suggest wrapping contents in an additional waterproof barrier to protect against seepage if the bag is to be exposed to heavy rainfall for many hours. The same advice applies to our tweed and woollen bags. Our 18oz and 24oz canvas is proofed for water resistance. Full leather bags are naturally water repellent but should be left to dry naturally and polished with a good quality leather cream or wax after heavy exposure to rainfall.

WHEN WILL I GET MY BAG?
If your bag is an In Stock item, we aim to despatch it within 2 business days of receiving your order. If your bag is a Made to Order item, this means we make the bag specially for you on receiving your order. Depending on the style and available capacity, this can take 5-15 business days, although we always try to despatch as quickly as possible, and before Christmas we reserve production capacity to speed up Made to Order items. Please tell us if you want a Made to Order item by a particular date.
HOW DO YOU MAKE DELIVERIES?
We deliver by overnight courier throughout most of the UK and to certain UK islands. Orders to other destinations are made by international Signed For courier. You can view a full description of the Delivery process here. Please also note that during the run up to Christmas we advise dates by which items should be ordered for Christmas delivery.
WHAT TERMS AND CONDITIONS APPLY TO MY ORDER (E.G. RETURNS)?
You can view our full online Terms and Conditions here.
IS VAT PAYABLE BY ALL ONLINE CUSTOMERS?
No. VAT is a UK sales tax common to EU countries which is not charged to customers resident outside the EU. The rate of VAT is currently 20.0% so, for example, a US resident customer with a US delivery address would have VAT deducted from the total cost of his goods. Our US and Japanese sites automatically deduct VAT from the price of the bag, and also include shipping and any applicable duties in the online price.
CAN I ORDER A BESPOKE BAG?
Yes. We have a bespoke bag service. Please contact us at email@example.com or call 01228 514514 to discuss your requirements.
CAN I SEE CUSTOMER REVIEWS OF CHAPMAN BAGS?
